Music nurtures creativity, performance skills, and an appreciation for diverse musical traditions. At Kennet School, we offer a vibrant Music programme which encourages artistic expression.

Key Stage 3

Pupils explore music theory, performance, and composition. Lessons cover a wide range of musical genres and cultures, fostering a deep appreciation for music.

Key Stage 4

Kennet School's GCSE Music course involves performance, composition, and music analysis. Pupils develop their technical skills, create original pieces, and study various musical works.

Key Stage 5

Kennet School offers an A Level Music two-year course. Students study a variety of music styles, as well as appraise, develop and demonstrate an in-depth knowledge and understanding of the musical elements, musical contexts and musical language. They also perform for a minimum of ten minutes and compose two pieces of music that develop musical ideas, including extending and manipulating musical ideas. 

We also offer A Level Music Technology, in which students study recording and mixing techniques to capture, edit and produce recordings. They will also focus on sound creation and manipulation, as well as techniques to create, edit and structure a technology-based composition. 

Facilities

The Music Department features practice rooms, recording studios and performance spaces equipped with instruments and digital technology, providing an ideal environment for musical development. Pupils regularly perform at sell-out events and shows, as well as teaming up with our Dance and Drama Departments to put on amazing whole-school productions. ​​​​​​
