Key Stage 3

Pupils participate in a wide variety of sports and physical activities, developing skills, fitness, and teamwork. Lessons focus on the benefits of physical activity and healthy living. These help pupils to develop and refine relevant skills, as well as have an understanding of the physical demand each sport places on their bodies.

Key Stage 4

Kennet School offers two courses in Key Stage 4: GCSE Physical Education and Level 2 Sport, a vocational qualification. Each pupil in Key Stage 4  also undertakes one double lesson a week of PE activity.

GCSE Physical Education course covers sports performance, anatomy, physiology, and sports psychology. Pupils engage in both practical and theoretical studies, improving their physical and analytical skills.

Level 2 Sport is a vocational course, which means it is more practical-based and assessed predominantly via coursework. Over two years, pupils study a total of three units covering topics such as: understanding the body and supporting technology for sport, sport's principles of training, nutrition and psychology; and applying sport's principles. Lessons comprise both practical and theoretical.

Key Stage 5

The A Level Physical Education two-year course involves advanced study of sports science, including biomechanics, sports psychology, and exercise physiology. Pupils analyse performance, conduct research, and explore career opportunities in sports and fitness. They are also expected to take an active part in the school team and participate regularly in a sport outside of school.
