End of October (the year before your child starts secondary school) |
Notification of School Place |
Beginning of March (the year your child is due to start secondary school) |
Further information on the process can be found on West Berkshire Council's website.
In-Year Applications
Parents can apply for a place at Kennet School any time of the year, known as an 'in-year application'. These are also administered through West Berkshire Council but follow a slightly different process - see the Council's website for more information. The Council will be able to inform you separately about how many pupils we have on our waiting lists for each year.

If you have missed this year’s Sixth Form Open Evening or would prefer a personalised visit, we will make individual appointments to show you around during term time. Please get in touch to make an appointment. Prospective parents will be shown around by the Head of Sixth Form or a member of the Sixth Form Leadership Team.
Internal Applicants
Our current Year 11 pupils already attending Kennet School will be guided through the process of choosing their next step courses with taster days, assemblies and Tutor time. They will be asked to submit their choices, be that A Level or T Level courses, via an online application form in December. They will then attend an interview in February/March in which they will discuss their suitability for their chosen courses. Current Year 11 Kennet School pupils will automatically have a conditional offer of a place in our Sixth Form, which they can secure by meeting the entry requirements as outlined in the admissions policy below.
External Applicants
Our Sixth Form open evenings take place in November. External students are encouraged to complete the online application form in the first instance as soon as possible. We will then be in touch to arrange a tour of our facilities and interviews which take place throughout the spring and summer terms.
For more detailed information on applying to Kennet Sixth Form, please see our Sixth Form section. Whether you are an internal or external applicant, enrolment into Kennet Sixth Form depends on GCSE or Level 2 Vocational Results. Our Sixth Form courses all have specific entry requirements that should be met in order to proceed with the chosen course/s.
