Kennet Games Returns for a Day of Inclusive Sport

Pupils from across the local area came together at Kennet School for a day of inclusive sport, teamwork and shared experiences.

On Saturday 2 May, Kennet School hosted it’s 48th Kennet Games - a much-loved event that brings together children with disabilities from across the local area for a day of sport, activity and shared experiences.

A long-standing part of the school calendar, Kennet Games once again showed the importance of inclusive sport. A range of activities were on offer, including table cricket, basketball shoot, javelin, skittles, rollaball, quadra throw, velcro target, table skittles, precision bean bag, shuffleboard, boccia and a series of races, giving every participant the chance to take part.

We were pleased to welcome pupils from Charters School, Lambs Lane School, Speenhamland School and PALS. Their enthusiasm set the tone for the day, with support and encouragement at every turn.

Events like this rely on a huge team effort, and the Games were made possible thanks to the dedication of staff, volunteers and supporters who helped everything run so smoothly. Thank you also to Kennet School PTAC for providing refreshments, and to Swings & Smiles for setting up a sensory station.

Acting Headteacher, Mr M Gayler, said: "This event is an important part of what we do as a school. It’s about creating opportunities for every young person to take part, feel included and enjoy being active. The atmosphere on the day said everything: supportive, encouraging and full of pure joy. Thank you to everyone who helped make it happen, and to all the participants who made the day so memorable."

Kennet Games continue to bring people together through sport, with this year’s event once again showing just how powerful those opportunities can be.
