Students at our school are celebrating exceptional success in this year’s Chemistry Olympiad

Students at our school are celebrating exceptional success in this year’s Chemistry Olympiad, organised by the Royal Society of Chemistry.

A total of 38 students participated in the prestigious national competition, achieving 3 Gold, 12 Silver, and 13 Bronze awards. This represents a significant improvement on last year’s results, where 37 students took part, earning 2 Gold, 7 Silver, and 15 Bronze awards.

The Chemistry Olympiad is designed to challenge and inspire the most able students, encouraging them to apply their knowledge to complex and unfamiliar problems. Success in the competition requires not only a strong grasp of scientific principles but also creativity, perseverance, and critical thinking.

Acting Headteacher, Mr M Gayler, said: “Our students have demonstrated remarkable dedication and intellectual curiosity. A great result, thanks to their hard work and the support from our Science department.”

Head of Science, Mrs Strong, added: “Participation in competitions such as the Chemistry Olympiad plays an important role in enriching students’ educational experience. It helps to develop analytical skills, build confidence, and encourages a deeper appreciation for science, preparing students for further study and careers in STEM fields. I am very proud of their achievements in this competition.”

Our thanks also go to our Head of Chemistry for organising the event and supporting students throughout the process.
