House Music 2026

Kennet School’s annual House Music competition returned in spectacular style, showcasing an evening of exceptional musical talent, student leadership and House spirit.
An extraordinary evening of music, confidence and student leadership took centre stage at this year’s House Music competition, as pupils delivered a truly memorable showcase of talent to a packed and enthusiastic audience.
The event demonstrated not only outstanding musical ability but also the remarkable independence and organisational skills of the students. House Music is entirely student-led: each House is directed by its House Captain, who selects the repertoire, organises and runs rehearsals, and designs the programme. The commitment, creativity and teamwork on display were exceptional.
The school was honoured to welcome an esteemed panel of guest judges: Dawn Wren (CEO, Berkshire Maestros), Samuel Foxon (Head of Music at St Birinus), Pedro Santos (Whitelands), alongside Deputy Head Mrs Walker. The judges faced the challenging task of selecting winners from an impressively high standard of performances across all Houses.
Each House brought something distinctive and dynamic to the stage:
St David House
The choir performed Coming Home (Sheppard), while the ensemble delivered an energetic rendition of Holiday (Green Day). Sophie performed her own original composition, Storm in a Teacup, accompanied sensitively by Suchita on piano.
St Francis House
The choir captivated the audience with Sit Down (James), followed by a soulful ensemble performance of Bring It On Home To Me (Sam Cooke). Audrey performed a heartfelt rendition of Hallelujah.
St Michael House
The choir impressed with Somebody to Love (Queen), and the ensemble performed Where Is My Husband! (RAYE). Albert delivered a powerful, self-composed drum solo inspired by a wide range of influential drummers.
St Patrick House
The choir performed Shine (Take That), while the ensemble wowed the audience with a lively mashup of Livin’ on a Prayer, Don’t Impress Me Much, Gimme Gimme Gimme, Hung Up and Sussudio. Matilda performed an accomplished flute solo.
The evening concluded with a rousing and celebratory House Captain Choir performance before the awards were announced — a fitting finale to a night that perfectly captured the spirit of House Music.
