This year marks 80 years since the end of World War II, our pupils embarked crafting an 80-metre-long display of handmade poppies.

This year marks 80 years since the end of World War II, and to commemorate this significant milestone, our pupils embarked on a heartfelt, creative project: crafting an 80-metre-long display of handmade poppies.

It was inspiring to see so many pupils take part, creating poppies from a variety of materials during their spare time and lunchtime clubs. Their dedication and enthusiasm not only met the ambitious target but exceeded it, resulting in a truly remarkable display.

We were honoured to welcome The Mayor of Thatcham, who visited the school to see the pupils’ incredible work firsthand and commend their efforts in remembering those who served.

In collaboration with the local community, the completed poppies will be displayed in Thatcham Town Centre from 23 October, bringing colour and reflection to the heart of the town. The installation will stand as a vibrant tribute to those who sacrificed so much, whilst celebrating the spirit of remembrance and unity that continues to thrive today.

Mrs Poyda, Teacher and Poppy Coordinator, said: “I am incredibly proud of all our pupils, staff, friends and family who have come together to create such a beautiful array of poppies. Seeing the whole school community collaborate so enthusiastically has been wonderful to witness, and I am really looking forward to seeing the finished poppies brighten Thatcham Town Centre.”

Ms G Rigg, Headteacher, added: “It has been inspiring to see so many of our community come together to create so many handmade poppies. Their creativity and dedication have not only met our target but exceeded it. Working alongside the local community to bring this display to Thatcham Town Centre is a wonderful way to honour the past and commemorate 80 years since the end of World War II. I can't wait to see it in person!”
