Kennet's Sports Personality of the Year 2026

Kennet School's annual Sports Personality of the Year Awards Evening celebrated the achievements, commitment and resilience of pupils who have excelled both in competition and through their contribution to school sport.

Kennet School recently celebrated the outstanding achievements of its young athletes at the annual Sports Personality of the Year Awards Evening, recognising sporting success, dedication, leadership and commitment across the school community.

The event brought together pupils, families, staff and special guests to reflect on another exceptional year of sport at Kennet. Throughout the evening, awards were presented to individuals and teams who have demonstrated excellence both in competition and through their contribution to school sport.

The prestigious Sports Personality of the Year Award was presented to Josh Norton, recognising his remarkable achievements and commitment to sport. Josh is a talented county-level cross-country runner and accomplished steeplechase and distance athlete, who has consistently demonstrated dedication and resilience throughout his sporting career, making him a worthy recipient of the school's highest sporting honour.

A special thank you was also made to Kennet’s Sports Leaders. All 14 students gave more than 15 hours of their time volunteering to support House Sport, clubs and primary events, and all passed their Community Sports Leaders Award with flying colours.

Awards were also presented to outstanding performers in each year group:

  • Year 7: F. Walters and R. Shguni
  • Year 8: L. Harris and F. Sayer
  • Year 9: C. Kilroy and H. Aitken
  • Key Stage 4 (Years 10 and 11): J. Thomas and C. O'Riordan

The Louise Sugden Award, which recognises determination, resilience and commitment to sport, was awarded to O. Macbeth.

The CAD Cup, awarded to pupils who have made an exceptional contribution to sport and the wider sporting community, was presented to H. Beaumont and B. Rogers.

This year's Teams of the Year were the Under 12 Football Team and Under 14 Football Team, both of whom enjoyed highly successful seasons and represented the school with distinction.

Mr Gayler, Acting Headteacher, said: "The Sports Personality of the Year Awards provide a wonderful opportunity to celebrate the perseverance and achievements of our pupils. Whether competing at the highest level, supporting teammates or demonstrating resilience in the face of challenges, every nominee should be incredibly proud of their accomplishments. Congratulations to all of our award winners and thank you to the staff, coaches, families and Sports Leaders who continue to support our pupils' sporting journeys."

The evening served as a fitting celebration of another successful year for Team Kennet and highlighted the strength, depth and inclusive nature of sport across the school. It was also a powerful reminder of the important role sport plays in supporting both mental health and physical wellbeing. The opportunities available at Kennet are second to none, and we are proud to offer such a rich diversity of opportunities that support both participation and performance, enabling every pupil to find a pathway that suits their interests, ambitions and abilities.
