Kennet Celebrates Pupil Success at Thatcham Community Awards

Kennet School pupils and initiatives were recognised at this year's Thatcham Community Awards, celebrating achievement and community impact.

Kennet School is celebrating a memorable evening at the Thatcham Community Awards, with pupil achievement and pupil-led initiatives recognised at the annual town meeting.

Sienna Williams was named the recipient of Thatcham Town Council’s ‘Inspiring Young Person’ Award, in recognition of her outstanding accomplishments in gymnastics and her role in representing the deaf community at a national level.

Sienna competed at the Disability British Championships 2025, proudly representing her club, Summit Gymnastics. Her dedication and passion for the sport have set her apart, and she continues to be a positive influence on those around her. Alongside her achievements as an athlete, Sienna is a powerful role model, demonstrating what can be achieved through determination and self-belief.

Kennet School’s Wellbeing Forum was also recognised on the evening, receiving a ‘Highly Commended’ distinction from the awards committee. Members of the forum attended the ceremony alongside the school’s Senior Mental Health Lead, Mr Joyce, and were joined by Marcus Hills from Mind in Berkshire.

The recognition highlights the forum’s continued efforts to raise awareness of mental health among young people across West Berkshire. Working in partnership with Mind in Berkshire, pupils have contributed to the development of two webinars: Mental Health 101’ (March 2025) and ‘Digital Wellbeing’ (March 2026). These resources offer practical guidance and encourage open, informed conversations around mental health in schools.

Acting Headteacher, Mr Gayler, said: “We are incredibly proud of Sienna and the Wellbeing Forum for the recognition they have received. Sienna’s achievements on a national stage, and her commitment to representing the deaf community, are exceptional.

“At the same time, the work of the Wellbeing Forum reflects the compassion and sense of responsibility our pupils show towards one another and the wider community. Together, these successes capture what it means to be part of Kennet School.”

The Thatcham Community Awards celebrate the contributions of individuals and groups who make a positive difference locally. This year’s recognition echoes Kennet School’s ongoing commitment to encouraging pupils to aim high, support others and make a meaningful impact beyond the classroom.
