Mr Gayler, who is already well known to pupils, staff and families through his leadership within the school, will lead Kennet from April 2026. His appointment ensures continuity for the school community and supports Kennet’s ongoing focus on high standards, strong relationships and excellent outcomes for pupils.

Speaking about his new role, Mr Gayler said:

"It is a genuine privilege to step into the role of Acting Headteacher of our school. The sense of teamwork within our community, the strength of relationships across the school and the shared commitment to ensuring every pupil thrives make it a great honour to take the reins whilst Ms Rigg is on maternity leave.

"Our ethos of excellence through endeavour guides everything we do. It is rooted in high expectations, respect and ambition for every pupil. We are proud to be an inclusive and aspirational school where every individual is known, valued and supported to achieve success.

"I wish to reassure you that it remains very much business as usual. My focus will continue to be on sustaining excellent outcomes, nurturing character and wellbeing and ensuring our pupils enjoy a breadth of opportunity to grow academically, socially and personally. Together, we will continue to strengthen the vibrant, forward-looking community that makes Kennet such a special place."

Kennet School has continued to go from strength to strength in recent years, with excellent academic outcomes, an expanding Ofsted Outstanding Sixth Form and a thriving programme of opportunities beyond the classroom.

Under Mr Gayler’s leadership, the school will continue to build on these strengths, maintaining its commitment to ensuring every pupil is known, valued and supported to achieve their very best.
