Public Consultation: Admission Changes for 2027

Kennet School has launched a public consultation on proposed changes to its admissions arrangements.
Kennet School, part of the Equinox Learning Trust, has today launched a public consultation on proposed changes to its admissions arrangements from September 2027.
The proposals include:
- A reduction in the Published Admission Number (PAN) for Year 7 from 300 to 270, in line with demographic trends and financial sustainability.
 - The introduction of three local primary schools — Francis Baily, Spurcroft and Whitelands Park — as named feeder schools, giving pupils from these schools’ priority in admissions.

Headteacher Ms Grace Rigg explained: “Kennet School is a thriving and successful school at the heart of Thatcham. However, the number of primary-aged children in the local area has fallen due to lower birth rates. By taking action now, we can align our admissions numbers with projected demand and protect the long-term financial stability of the school. This ensures we continue to provide high-quality education for every child.”
The consultation runs from 6 October to 16 November 2025*, and the school is inviting feedback from parents, carers, local schools, staff, governors, community groups and the local authority. For full details, including how to respond, please visit the consultation website: www.kennetschool.co.uk/public-consultation.
Chief Executive of Equinox Learning Trust, Mr Francois Walker, added: “We welcome views from across the community. These proposals are designed to strengthen curriculum continuity across our Trust and provide families with greater certainty about secondary school places.”
* The consultation has been extended until 31 December 2025.
