Pupils explore key historical periods and events, developing skills in analysis, evaluation, and historical enquiry. Lessons cover a broad range of topics, from ancient civilisations to modern history.
Key Stage 4
We offer GCSE History, a two-year course focusing on in-depth studies of significant historical periods. Pupils examine sources, interpret evidence, and construct well-informed arguments about historical issues.
Key Stage 5
Our A Level History course covers diverse topics, including British, European, and World History. Students engage in detailed analysis of primary and secondary sources and complete an independent research project on a historical topic of their choice.
Facilities
We have a suite of classrooms situated directly below the library. There are study spaces where pupils are able to work independently, as well as a suite of laptops and a good stock of textbooks to support their studies further. The library also gives pupils access to online materials such as JSTOR and History Today, which helps vastly improve their understanding of the topics covered, and engagement in intensive research for their coursework.
We enrich our pupils' experience through a number of excursions, from exploring the Tower of London and learning about the Tudor period to attending historical seminars in London. There is also the opportunity to partake in the Lessons from Auschwitz Project, which we have successfully supported over the last ten years.
