Pupil Premium

What is Pupil Premium?

The pupil premium is extra money paid to schools by the UK Government to help disadvantaged children achieve more in education. It is given to schools according to the number of pupils who have been:

  • registered as eligible for free school meals at any point in the last six years
  • been in care for six months or longer; or
  • have parents in the Armed Forces.

How do we use the funding?

Schools have the freedom to spend this funding in a way they think will best support the raising of attainment for the most vulnerable pupils and close the gap between them and their peers. Accompanying this freedom is the responsibility to report on barriers, allocation of monies to overcome these barriers, spending and rate of impact. We work to a three-year strategy for our funding:

The information reports below are against our 2021-2024 three-year strategy, detailing how we've spent the funding over the last few years and what we are doing with it over this current year:

How to register for Pupil Premium Funding

We are aware that not everyone who is eligible for free school meals chooses to claim them. However, pupil premium funding enables us to make significant improvements in the education we offer at Kennet School, so we strongly encourage all eligible parents to register their child(ren) for free school meals, even if they do not wish to take the free meals. You can register for free school meals on the West Berkshire Council website >>>
