Our library is a dynamic learning hub, seamlessly integrated with the curriculum. It provides a relaxed, constructive environment for private study, homework, or simply reading for pleasure.

Library Resources

Our library offers an extensive range of resources and study tools, including:

  • Over 17,000 resources, including books, periodicals and papers
  • Bespoke quiet areas for work, including a designated Sixth Form study room
  • 50 networked computers and laptops
  • Online access to the library database 'Oliver',  the Accelerated Reader Programme and Encyclopaedia Britannica
  • Wider reading support through 'LearnPath to foster enquiry
  • Internet-linked projectors and screens for presentations.

Accessibility

All resources are available before and after school, as well as during break times and lunchtimes. Our librarians are on hand to assist with research, book recommendations, and more. They also collaborate with teachers to deliver research lessons, ensuring media and digital literacy skills are embedded in our pupils’ learning.

Sixth Form Resources

Our library offers Sixth Form students access to online journals and databases like JStor and Hodder Education Publications. A dedicated silent study space with computer access is available for focused research during study periods.

Reading for Pleasure

Reading is a core value at Kennet, supported across all year groups and departments. As well as the Kennet Canon, the library works closely with the English Department to support literacy and foster a lifelong love of reading. Year 7 pupils are encouraged to participate in the Accelerated Reader programme, complemented by regular library reading lessons.

Co-Curricular Activities

Librarians host weekly clubs and regular events, including the highly successful annual 'BookFest' programme, featuring visits from authors and poets. They organise the annual Carnegie Shadowing Group and host the Carnegie Conference for local secondary schools.
