Key Stage 3
Pupils begin their French journey by building a solid foundation in basic language skills. They engage in activities which enhance listening, speaking, reading, and writing abilities. Cultural projects and interactive lessons help pupils appreciate the traditions and daily life in French-speaking countries.
Key Stage 4
We offer GCSE French, a two-year course which deepens language proficiency. Pupils cover advanced grammar, expand their vocabulary, and practise real-life communication scenarios. The course includes studying French literature, films and current events to provide a comprehensive understanding of the language and culture.
Key Stage 5
Kennet School's A Level French course is a rigorous two-year programme focusing on fluency and advanced language skills. Students explore complex texts, engage in debates, and study French history, politics, and culture. The course culminates in an independent research project, allowing students to investigate a topic of their choice related to the French-speaking world.
Facilities
We have six dedicated classrooms where pupils join in with the reading, speaking and listening aspects of language. Our teaching staff are specialists in their fields and the results speak for themselves. We also run lunchtime clubs in France and trips to France, a great way for pupils to see the culture and experience the language in action.
Key Stages 4 and 5 pupils have regular speaking sessions with our French native speaker language assistant, which enables intensive speaking practice as well as the chance to discover more about the target language country. Our Sixth Form students are also encouraged to undertake work experience abroad, which has a remarkable effect on their confidence and their accuracy in their speaking abilities.
