Pupil Voice & Leadership

We know that, when given the opportunity, young people can profoundly impact their school. Participation in leadership and voice activities can improve learning experiences and equip them with essential skills and traits needed for success beyond the classroom.

Our School Council aims to:

  • Improve the school based on pupils' perspectives
  • Provide a platform for pupils to voice their opinions
  • Offer a forum for discussing a whole range of topics.

The School Council comprises representatives from each Tutor Group, who are elected into a position by their peers every September. Once appointed, selected representatives from each year group attend Executive School Council meetings. School Council meetings are held regularly, ensuring meaningful discussions.

We also have a dedicated website where pupils can express their views directly, 24/7.

The Headteacher receives recommendations on how to improve pupils' experience at the school. This way, pupils are involved constructively in school decisions, including the overall school development plan.

By fostering pupil leadership and providing platforms for their voices, Kennet School ensures pupils are actively involved in shaping their educational environment.

Sixth Form Leadership

Our Sixth Formers serve as role models for their young peers, whether that is through their work on the Student Leadership Team, as Prefects, House Captains or through the various mentoring opportunities available. The Sixth Form Leadership Team is made up of Head Students, Deputy Head Students and Sixth Form Leaders. Applicants submit a written application and deliver a speech to their peers which goes to a public vote. Shortlisted candidates are interviewed by the current Sixth Form leadership team, with final interviews conducted by the Headteacher and Head of Sixth Form.
