At Kennet School, we are committed to fostering academic excellence and ambition. The Kennet Scholars Programme is aimed at inspiring excellence and unlocking potential. It is a prestigious initiative designed to challenge, support and inspire our most able pupils, from Years 7 to 13, to reach their full potential and secure places at top universities, including Oxbridge and Russell Group institutions.

What is the Kennet Scholars Programme?

The Kennet Scholars Programme is a tailored programme for high-achieving and ambitious pupils, providing specialist academic enrichment, mentoring, and guidance. It is designed to develop the knowledge, skills and mindset required for success at the most competitive universities and careers.

This dynamic and stimulating programme goes beyond standard classroom learning, offering:

  • Oxbridge-style tutorials: Small group discussions which develop critical thinking, analysis, and debate.
  • Specialist subject mentoring: One-on-one support from expert teachers and university alumni.
  • Academic masterclasses: Opportunities to explore complex ideas beyond the curriculum.
  • University preparation: Personal statement workshops, admissions test guidance, and mock interviews.
  • Lectures & Guest Speakers: Inspiring talks from leading academics and professionals.
  • Exclusive trips and events: Visits to top universities, museums, and academic conferences.

Who is the Programme for?

The Kennet Scholars Programme is open to pupils from Years 7 to 13 who demonstrate:

  • A passion for learning and intellectual curiosity.
  • High academic achievement or exceptional potential (classified as 'More Able, Gifted & Talented' - see table below).
  • Ambition to apply for competitive university courses.
     
More Able/Gifted Defined at Kennet as the top 10% of pupils based on prior attainment in all subjects except Physical Education, Drama, Dance, Languages and Music.
Exceptionally Able /Gifted Defined at Kennet as the top 3% of pupils measured by actual achievement across the whole curriculum.
Talented Teachers can nominate pupils at any point in the school year when they identify talent in one of the following subjects: Art & Design, Music, Drama, Dance, Physical Education, Languages or co-curricular activities.

Building a Future at Top Universities

For pupils aspiring to Oxbridge, Russell Group universities, and prestigious courses such as Medicine, Law, or Engineering, early preparation is key. The Kennet Scholars Programme provides a structured pathway to help pupils:

  • Choose the right A Level subjects and super-curricular activities.
  • Develop strong applications through research projects and essay competitions.
  • Gain confidence through university-style learning and discussions.

Pupils are invited to join the programme based on academic performance, teacher recommendations or personal applications.
