At Kennet School, we recognise the integral part sport plays in the lives of our pupils, not only in terms of their physical health and mental wellbeing, but also their broader personal development.

Participation in sports promotes teamwork, camaraderie, mentoring and leadership; it teaches individuals to face challenges and helps them overcome adversity; it requires discipline and commitment, but, most importantly, it is fun and, we hope, will create memories which will stay with them for life. We are ambitious for our pupils, some of whom compete internationally representing the UK.

Our co-curricular sporting programme ensures that pupils have access to a wide range of physical activities before school, at lunchtimes, and after school. Every week, all pupils have the opportunity to take part in recreational clubs, staff-led training sessions, and competitive fixtures. The programme is designed to be diverse and inclusive, offering activities such as swimming, squash, table tennis, badminton and basketball, alongside seasonal sports like rugby, netball, and cricket. Pupils also have the chance to compete at district, county, regional and national levels.

We offer:

  • House Sport & Competitive Opportunities: Kennet School's PE department works closely with the House System to deliver House Sport competitions, providing every pupil with the opportunity to participate and compete against their peers. Across the academic year, there are 16 House sporting events, ensuring high levels of engagement and participation.

  • Special Sporting Events: We are proud to offer a unique range of special sporting events, allowing pupils to challenge themselves in exciting and varied disciplines. These include the Kennet Triathlon. Kennet Biathlon Series, Kennet Fitness Challenge (Hyrox), Kennet WIT (a CrossFit-inspired event), the Kennet Games (for our Physically Disabled Resource pupils), and our very own Sports Personality of the Year Award.

  • Leadership Programme: Our Leadership Programme supports clubs and fixtures by providing pupils with the opportunity to gain accreditation while developing skills in assisting, leading, and officiating school activities. This hands-on experience helps build confidence, responsibility, and a lifelong passion for sport.

Kennet School is committed to providing an exceptional sporting experience that nurtures talent, encourages participation and fosters a love of physical activity in all pupils.
